With the release of our first\u00a0Sustainability Report<\/a>, we have set an example of industry leadership in sustainability. Our annual Sustainability Report now puts us ahead of competition, and establishes us as an industry leader in sustainability.<\/p>\n
We have committed to annually publish DyStar\u2019s\u00a0Carbon Footprint Report<\/a>\u00a0and Sustainability Report and we are also expanding the scope of Sustainability Reporting by including many more performance indicators for the next year.<\/p>\n
Our first sustainability report reflects our performance in 2010, the first year for which we measured our performance. We have established 2010 as the base year for comparing our future performance.<\/p>\n
We are now focusing on setting realistic targets to continuously improve our sustainability performance in areas that we consider as material to our business and our stakeholders.<\/p>\n
<\/div>\nOur Sustainability Strategy<\/h1>\n
Our Sustainability Strategy is twofold. Reduce our own environmental impact and help our customers to reduce their environmental impact.<\/p>\n
\nWe have identified energy, greenhouse gas emissions, water, and waste as the main environmental impacts that we should focus on. Our target is to reduce environmental impact in these four areas by 20% by 2020. Our aim is to achieve this goal by reducing our impact by 2% every year.<\/p>\nWith this vision, we have implemented our company wide Sustainability Initiative \u201cCaring for the Future\u201d program.<\/strong><\/p>\n
<\/div>\nOur Sustainability Drive \u2013 Caring for the future<\/h2>\n
Initiating this program, we have formed \u201cSustainability Councils\u201d who will have the responsibility to drive sustainability in their regions by identifying opportunities for reductions and finding creative solutions to enhance sustainability performance.<\/p>\n
At production levels, a number of initiatives to reduce our environmental impact are already underway. Our Sustainability Council members at production sites are continuously looking into innovative and sustainable production practises to reduce our impact.<\/p>\n
We believe that our sustainability efforts to reduce energy consumption, water use, waste and other resources will make us more cost effective and competitive.<\/p>\n
As a company, we also feel our responsibility towards society. One of the ways by which we can effectively contribute to society is to use our expertise to solve problems that societies face. We can do this by collaborating with local governments, research institutions and universities to develop affordable solutions in the area of drinking water, water conservation, green energy, and environmental education.<\/p>\n
<\/div>\nAnnual CEO Sustainability Awards<\/h2>\n
Furthermore, we have announced that the success of our company wide Sustainability Program \u201cCaring for the Future\u201d, would be linked to an annual award scheme. At the end of each year, we would evaluate the regional successes of our sustainability program and the best entries would be given the CEO Award.<\/p>\n
